In 2007, Floyd County, Virginia, had no professional picture framing service. Then a local cooperative art studio called Art Under the Sun asked me to frame some of the paintings.
The first artist told other artists who told their friends and I found myself doing custom picture framing on a full-time basis.
This temporary display window was created in downtown Floyd to let people know that custom framing was available, but all work is done in a fully equipped framing workshop on Silverleaf Lane, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The workload grew enough that a Wizard CMC mat cutter was acquired to increase production without sacrificing personal attention to every stage of the picture framing process. The mat cutter turns out flawless mats of amazing complexity.
The next acquisition was visualization software and a camera system that creates computer generated images of finished framing projects from artwork and a few moulding and mat samples.
This also allowed distant clients to send in their artwork and get custom frame designs to review on their home computers.
Two associates have recently joined me to share the workload and further extend the range of services we can provide.
We are a full service custom framing business. We do conservation framing for artists, galleries, and collectors and we also do repairs and reframing of previously framed art.
Our workshop is open by appointment only so that customers get all the time they need to select mats and frames without interruption.
Our basic philosophy is to produce high quality custom picture framing using archival materials and conservation framing techniques at an attractive price and to deliver a finished framing job that creates an emotional impact.
This aligns with a long-term goal to help artists create viable businesses and contribute to sustainable economic development for this region.
